The Newburgh Sharks is a non-profit competitive swim team that was established in 1972 by Chris Townsend. The Sharks have been a proud member of USA Swimming since 1977 and achieved Silver Medal Club status in 2005 and Bronze Medal Club status in 2006. The Newburgh Sharks is designed to meet the needs of swimmers at all levels of competitive swimming. We work with athletes at all stages of swimming development from beginner swimmers to swimmers training for a national cut. The goal of the Newburgh Sharks is to help swimmers reach their fullest potential through hard work and commitment to training. The Newburgh Sharks has coached and trained swimmers right through their senior year in college and has always promoted and maintained a positive relationship with high school coaches and teams. The coaching staff is one of the best in the Hudson Valley and has produced swimmers that have attained National Top 16 Rankings as well as Junior National, Senior National, and Olympic Trial qualifiers. Michael Townsend, Head Coach, and Becky Trenz, coach the Senior Group and have been coaching with the Sharks since 1998. Matt Mauriello, Junior Group coach, has been coaching since 2000. The Goldfish coach, Bob Trenz, joined the staff in 2003. The Minnows are coached by Patrick Kavanagh (NFA’s Varsity Head Coach); Pat joined the staff in 2007.
